About
We’re friends helping friends. Grassroots. Volunteers. With the help of generous donors. And an awesome God.
We do street outreach, go to homeless camps, talk to people flying signs. We meet immediate needs when we can: food, water, hygiene items, tents, boots, etc. Our #1 goal is building friendships with homeless people who need friends, family, community, love, support.
We go and visit homeless people where they are: where they sleep or camp, where they hang out, where they fly, etc. We take homeless/formerly homeless people out to eat, to church, to cook-outs, to family events and on vacation, to holiday celebrations, and more. We hang out with them around campfires. We learn and receive far more than we give. We trust and love and are trusted and loved.
We help homeless people do the next thing, when they’re ready: medical care, mental health and substance abuse treatment, housing, reconciling with family, following their dreams — whatever their next thing is, if we can help, we try to do that. We have a small core team, and we’re often joined by other friends.
Some of us are experts (people who are or have been homeless) and some of us are friends of experts. In addition to those who’ve experienced homelessness, among our StreetWatch core team members and other volunteers, we share other things in common with the people we serve: mental illness, alcoholism or addiction, poverty, family dysfunction, past trauma and more. We identify with our friends.
We care about each other as a team and we care about the friends (old and new, beginning, developing, established) that we are privileged and honored to serve and hang out with.
