After City Council, April 21 2009; homeless and non-homeless friends spoke about homeless issues, funding, etc. Audrie and I made a lot of trips up and down the stairs into the basement at Grace today -- and packed out the van for StreetWatch this week! Next time, we for sure need men to do the MANual labor part. ;) Ouch... Boots and a sleeping bag for John
Massey Creek Farms just delivered 360 fresh, local eggs for FNB! Mark Horvath, giving out socks to our homeless friends.

At HIVE w/students from the Volunteer Ctr Service Learning Camp Gracie wore a Hello Kitty t-shirt for our visit to see our friends at their camp. :) When my youngest (Will) was little, he played chess with some of our homeless friends at Cup 'A Joe while I did street outreach on Tate Street. (Most of those friends are housed now!) Audrie's youngest (Gracie) goes out and visits homeless camps with her parents, and also helps feed our friends. Teach your children young: LOVE = ACTION. My grandmomma first taught me, and then my momma. Pass it on... mural at the homeless day center on Bessemer Avenue

Cujo and Molly have been traveling across the country with Vomit and Luna. They're enjoying being inside and chillin' at Kim's house with all her dogs, while Vomit and Luna relax for a while. Cujo can drink an amazing amount of water. Molly likes the food. :) This is me and Audrie's friend Stickman. He makes walking sticks. Hence, the nickname. He also opens car doors for ladies. Gentlemanly. Nice. ;)
Audrie and I sit where the benches used to be. Removing the benches is one way to discourage panhandlers, I guess. ;) What is missing from Panhandler's Park?

NightWatch ran out of blankets on the first stop on Friday night, 04/03/2009, the first street outreach after winter shelters closed. Melissa and I went to Grace and got blankets, socks and coats from our StreetWatch supplies, loaded them up and went back to meet the NightWatch truck and team. It was a busy night. Fewer stops than usual, but lots of homeless people! The truck is loaded and ready for NightWatch street outreach! Blankets, Bibles, soup, bread, hygiene kits, snack bags, sports drinks, water and more! Andre pours the soup into the cambros for NightWatch. Audrie and I made the soup. Andre made it better!
Gracie, Paul, Audrie and Michele make snack bags to give to our homeless friends on NightWatch. stormy, a homeless advocate who does street outreach, holds hands with a homeless woman she met on nightwatch, as the woman talks to mayor yvonne johnson about the looming april 1st deadline for the closing of the winter emergency shelters, when she will be back on the street. stormy met her at the camp where she lived outside near downtown greensboro, before moving into the women's winter shelter at grace community church. Bought shoes, boots, jewelry and clothes; got stuff for me, my daughter Stephanie, my niece Sydney, my nephew Ethan, and Stephanie's friend Sophia's new baby girl. Bags and bags of stuff! Spent just $57 total! Unbelievable!! You MUST go shop at Joseph's Gear. This store funds Joseph's House, which serves homeless young adults in Guilford County. The store is at 709 E. Market St., at the corner of Market and Murrow. Joseph's House web site is here: http://josephshouse.net/
why is the block empty? because of the talking surveillance camera on that pole back there. see the little yellow sign? why are my fists clinched? because it's cold and windy out there!! (cold weather's never stopped people from congregating on the block before. that talking camera sure has moved them along, though.) talking surveillance camera at Lee and Eugene by the homeless shelter; the yellow sign says: "THIS AREA UNDER ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE;" it's a tiny sign, high up on a pole, hard to read, but the orwellian voice gets your attention talking surveillance camera on the block at Lee and Eugene by the homeless shelter
