On May 2, 2010, the body of a homeless man, Speedy, was found under this bridge where many of my friends have slept over the years. Later in the day, I stood quietly in this spot where we'd be before many times, laughing, talking, praying. I walked through the field on the way to see friends in their camps after visiting the bridge where Speedy died. I saw these purple flowers peeking out and thought about this Scripture:

"As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children." ~ Psalm 103:15-17 Don's kitchen.
Don's sprouting bean seeds to plant in his garden. 5/5/10 On 5/4/10, I went back to the bridge where Speedy died, looking for his friend James. James wasn't there, but others were. One of the guys noticed a snake, so we took a closer look.
The snake slithered up a branch. In the picture, it's hard to tell the snake from the branches. Living with snakes is part of living outside. One of the guys watching the snake with us said, "I hope he's not in my sleeping bag tonight." :(
A few days later, on 5/8, a guy named Bubba at the Farmer's Market donated chili from their cook-off. Mark Stinson and I took it to a homeless camp and to the block and fed some hungry people. Mark and I went to Keith's camp to visit his new puppy, Baby Girl. Baby Girl is sleepy.
